Dunfermline City 2nd XI made a winning start to the second half of the season with a convincing 5-0 home win against their rivals Carnegie 4s in the Dunfermline derby.
City started the game strongly putting Carnegie’s defence and goalkeeper under instant pressure which was shortly rewarded by a thunderbolt strike from Karl Maxi on his first game back after injury. City doubled their lead before half time through veteran striker Vince Shipley who calmly put the ball past the goalkeeper after being sent one on one by a defence splitting pass from Gareth Edwards.
The result was made safe in the first minute of the second half when Fraser Burns set Shipley up to grab his second of the game. City continued to pressure the Carnegie defence and were rewarded by Shipley’s third goal of the afternoon and a sweet goal for Dave Sutton which was his first for the club after recently signing from Dunfermline Carnegie.
The result leaves City in the hunt for promotion and was a great confidence boost to a team which contains 5 players in the debut season.
