Sunday 20th March
8 city members took to the road to travel to Grandtully to take part in the annual White Water Rafting all in the aid of raising funds for Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland The City team was made up of Brent, Ryan, Gareth, Athol, Allan Preston, Adam, Stu Campbell, Stu Allan and was ably supported by friends and family.
City fancied themselves for victory right from the start with Athol, City’s answer to Ben Ainslie on their side who later turned out to be more like Captain Pugwash (sorry Athol). On arrival we were paired up with a specialised rafter for the day & City soon found their rafter was none other than Captain Jack Sparrow, shame he couldn’t sail like the Pirate himself
The course was 3 miles or so we were lead to believe, however, quickly found out that in actual fact we were doing a 5.5 mile race. After going through our safety briefing, we took to the water ready to race against 8 other teams. The City members decided that the motto for the day was ‘lets go all out’ however after a disastrous start the chances of a City win were sinking faster than the titanic dropping to 2nd last, however, the City never say die spirit took over and we soon quickly found ourself moving up positions. City soon found themselves in 5th whilst chasing the top 4 down, however a lack of steady rhythm didn’t see us progress any further & City crossed the finish line in 53 mins in 5th place.
A good day was had by all & the after raft hospitality supplied by the Inn on the Tay was top notch. All of the City members can feel proud of their efforts as this is certainly harder than it looks. The real winners of the day were Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland who between the 9 teams taken part managed to raise a combined £13,000 with City members, friends & family raising over £1000.On behalf of all at the City, I would personally like to thank everyone who sponsored City, it is greatly appreciated. Here’s to next year & who knows maybe we will get our hands on the trophy.
