City ventured to Mary Erskine to face Watsonians 4s. City turned up and there was no opposition around. City proceeded to warm up on the lovely water base pitch. David Tanton in his return to the first eleven line up came out all kitted in the outfield strip – and asked where Brandon was. To which he was told your in goals!! Tanton was gutted that he wasn’t called into the ones after his predatory 2 goals in 2 games for the twos – he was in fact called in to play in goals. Tanton sobbed off and got kitted out in the keepers gear.
A lone sole from Watsonians finally arrived and came down and said we would have to move to the sand based pitch as the ladies had booked the water based.
City moved up to the top Sand based pitch and started warming up again. Watsonians turned up – but the game started late at 1.15 while we waited for the full eleven of Watsonians turned up.
City started well and dominated possession. The first real chance of the game came when Miller played a neat pass to Ryan Green who produced a good save from the keeper. Green then repaid the favour playing Miller through on goal. The striker whacked the ball past the keeper but to his avail agonisingly millimetres past the post. City didn’t have to wait too long before they got of the mark. No surprises that it was Ryan Green who broke the deadlock as he was looking dangerous. He pushed the ball towards the near post – the keeper got a touch on it but for him it agonisingly sneaked in the post. Rintoul then added a second following a well worked short corner when he absolutely melted the ball past the helpless keeper – 2.0.
It was by no way one way traffic as David Tanton in goals had to get down smartly on a couple of occasions to thwart the Watsonians attack.
A scuffle in the Watsonians box then led to a third for City – the ball broke to Miller who walked round the keeper and lifted the ball into the net.
Allan Green then came on for Miller and Swinton for Tanton. The father and son pairing almost got a goal immediately as Ryan Green slipped the ball to his old man – who forced a good save from the keeper – as the ball trickled wide of his pads. Ryan Green then added a clinical forth after being sent through on goal by a slick midfield pass – he pushed the ball past the keeper with deadly accuracy and into the far bottom corner of the goal.
Half time and the score was 4.0 – and it could quite possible have been a few more.
The half time team talk got off to a bad start when Stuart Campbell who is desperately seeking his first goal for the club – sat on the metal above the backboard – but unfortunately his weight forced pressure on the metal which bent and pushed the top of his finger into the actual backboard – OUCH – he let of a huge squeal with a few expletives also. Looked a sore one – so Campbell had a break to put an ice pack on and bandage up the injured finger.
Alan Green took over at Right Back. The game restarted and Ryan Green who had moved back into midfield completed his hatrick beating the keeper for the third time.
Again this was not all one way traffic – with the defence being called into action on numerous occasion. Griffiths junior suffering from a chest infection slotted in at sweeper in the second half allowing the probing Neil Innes to push into midfield. Griffiths played a few Griffiths style sweeper passes straight to the strikers – but made amends. (Like father like son.) But all in all he did a good distribution job at sweeper.
Miller added the sixth from a great through ball which was hit first time – the keeper saved but it deflected straight back and Miller made no mistake this time scooping the ball high into the net.
Miller then added his third after a scuffle in the box from a short corner.
Stuart Campbell had recovered a bit from his half time battle with the goals and he came back on up front. After failing to score in the past few weeks with some fine strikes just wide of the goal – the would the Big Man finally take his chance up front to grab that elusive goal….ERrr NO – he did have two attempts though.
City had further chances – Miller going close after a great through ball from Innes – but that was the end of the goals for the day.
This was quite possibly one Citys best performances of the season. Watsonians had a few experiences players in their midst so this was not a game to take for granted.
Plus signs again today with youngsters Tyler Annan, Will Tanton and Robbie Swinton doing well – but also a special mention to second team sponsor Al Green who had a good spell up front and performed admirably in the left back position in the second half. Graeme Crumbs who frequently broke down the right wing on many occasion also performed well after stepping up from the second XI.
Man of the match for the day was probably Ryan Green who was proving elusive to the opposition – while Tantonator in goals had another fine game – deserving his shut out.
Onwards to a home game against Kinross next weekend where hopefully the winning run will continue.
